Mill Woods’ own Gigi Rey has quickly become one of rising stars of the independent scene. Though “The Money” began her career in Edmonton, Rey made the move to Texas to train at Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling. Since then, Rey has become one of the focal points of the promotions Diamonds division, where she currently reigns as one-half of the ROW Women’s Tag Team Champions.

In a recent interview with Spencer Love, Booker T discussed his admiration for Gigi Rey, and what differentiates her on the ROW roster.

“You’re talking about The Money, Gigi Rey! She is awesome, man. She is so friggin’ awesome at what she does. She’s definitely next level. She’s ready for a WWE tryout right now, today. She can work with any female wrestler in the world right now. That’s not because of anything I’ve done or anything. That’s because of her hard work [and] her determination. She’s got her own training night with the girls at Reality of Wrestling. She’s working her butt off to get to that next level. When you hear about people paying their dues, Gigi Rey has been on the money as far as that goes. I’ve been putting her in the best positions I possibly can to actually get her there. Stay tuned! You’re going to see Gigi Rey on the big screen very, very soon.”

As part of her time with Reality of Wrestling, Rey has had the opportunity to face off with a number of NXT stars, including the current NXT Women’s Champion, Jacy Jayne. Booker T went on to explain the benefits of ROW becoming a WWE ID-affiliated school, and the opportunities they’ve earned through the program.

“I’ve been working on this for 20 years. Twenty years I’ve been working on this program as far as putting this together, as far as being able to give these guys a springboard, and an opportunity of a lifetime. Being able to work with talent that’s perhaps a little bit better than you, that’s the only way you’re going to learn. So for my guys to get a chance to rub elbows – just like you just talked about, Jacy Jayne and Gigi Rey – that’s all by design. That’s a showcase for Gigi Rey! Jacy Jayne, everyone’s going to see her, but if they see Jacey, they’re going to see Gigi. They’re going to see that she can go toe-to-toe with somebody at that level.

For me, it’s been so awesome to have Hank and Tank, Lexis King, Trick Williams, Thea Hail – the list goes on and on and on how many guys we’ve had here. It’s amazing. It’s amazing to see my dream come to fruition when I didn’t even dream to be in this business! To be able to carry the tradition of a great man by the name of Paul Boesch, who wore this ring, is an honour for me. It really, truly is.”

Earlier today, Reality of Wrestling announced the impending debut of Calgary’s own Natalya at their upcoming event on June 28th, ROW: GLORY 4.
